First Birthday Party

September 28, 2013...Avery turned ONE.

Our sweet little girl celebrated her first birthday at her grandparents in Shalimar (Destin area).  We drove up on a Thursday and came back Sunday.  During our trip Avery got to spend a little time with both of her great grandmas, great aunt Nell, grandma and grandpa Frazier, grandma Williams and Shannon and Wright.

For decorations, we went with a rainbow color scheme which screamed birthday party to me.  Her grandmas were hard at work the weeks leading up to it and created her birthday dress, wreath, banner and tutu highchair; such precious items that will be used for years to come.

Since we knew she had sensitivity to milk and eggs, Avery's smash cake was vegan from Whole Foods.  Luckily they made it pretty cute but it was rather dense and didn't smash at all.

before and after...

Overall this birthday girl had a blast.

July 13, 2013...

Avery has changed significantly in the last 6 weeks.  She started crawling the first week of June, starting saying Da Da just in time for Ben's first Father's Day, waves Hi and Bye, tries to say Night Night and Bye Bye when I say it, claps her hands when you sing certain songs, walks when you hold her hands, pulls herself up on EVERYTHING, and continues to be so happy and full of smiles.  She is very determined and a little OCD (I guess she got that part from me).  She knows what she likes and doesn't like and lets us know.  At her 9 month checkup she weighed 18 lbs 9 oz and was 27.5 inches long (42% percentile for both).  She also has 8 teeth (4 on top and 4 on bottom).

June and early July was full of family fun including Ben's first Fathers Day which was filled with a diving trip with the guys on Saturday and a day at the Baseball stadium to watch the Rays on Sunday with me and Avery.  He had a blast and loved his gifts as well. Other fun activities for the hot summer days included boating, a pool party with a few friends and a TON of kids, and visiting with grandparents who came to visit us over the 4th of July.  Avery was spoiled rotten with attention and provided a lot of entertainment to us all.  I think that weekend our parents finally got to understand exactly how energetic Avery has become and how our lives are now "On Go" all the time.

8 Months Old

June 2, 2013

Avery turned 8 months on May 28th.  She is such a happy baby who brings us so much laughter and love. Over the last 2 months Avery has continued to grow and develop and is now 16.5 lbs and just over 26 inches long.  She mastered sitting a couple months back but is now standing (as long as she is holding on to the couch, table or our hands), scooting, doing 360 turns on her bottom, saying Momma, Beh (which we are really thinking it means Bella since she does it when she wants to play with her), eating all sorts of solids, puffs and making attempts at a sippy cup.  We originally thought she would not crawl (her daddy didn't either) since she hated being on her belly, but she is now getting onto her hands and knees and trying to move so its likely coming soon.

Since our 6 month post, we have traveled to FWB to visit family.  Avery just loves all the attention she gets from people and soaked it up from her grandparents, great aunt Susie and our friends back in FWB. One of her favorite things is to get an applause from someone when she does something "exciting" or new.  She will literally turn and look for acknowledgment and giggle with excitement.  She also loves the camera and as soon as I pull it out she looks at me with a huge smile (hence all the photos of her smiling).  This makes my life easy when it comes to capturing all of these precious moments in her life.

6 Months Old

April 2, 2013...Our little Avery Kate is 6 months old or whats even scarier half way to being 1!  Time continues to fly by but we are enjoying every minute of her growing up and becoming an individual.  At Avery's 6 month appointment she weighed 15.6 lbs (43rd percentile) and was 26 inches long (56th percentile).  She also got her 2 bottom teeth almost a month ago!!
She can roll over, sit up unassisted, turn on any toy or mobile that has lights or music, started to jump in her bouncer/exersaucer, likes to help me feed her solid food (this is very messy), tries to give us hugs and kisses, and most of all smiles non-stop and laughs at me, Ben and Bella.

Foods she likes includes green beans, squash, carrots, prunes, and sweet potatoes.  We are still working on the others.

Avery has also taken an interest in whatever I am reading so we started bed time stories.  If we do this during the day she tries to eat the book, so at night is best when she is tired and will just sit and listen and grab as I turn pages.

Below are pictures at 5 months and 6 months.  I love capturing her big smiles and long lashes in pictures.

4 Months Old

February 3, 2013...

Avery turned 4 months last week.  She has developed quite the personality.  She will laugh out loud when I dance, play peek a boo, chase Bella around, and tickle her belly and collarbone.  She is so much fun these days; Ben and I can easily spend hours just playing with her.  As I have shared with some friends, I really wish maternity leave was in this stage of her life.  Although I appreciated the time we had the first 3 months when she needed me most, I selfishly would trade them in for this point and time in her life.

Avery is doing very well at daycare.  The women there love her and are constantly telling us how much they enjoy her.  She rarely has a bad day these days and has given us a sneak peak at what it would be like to sleep through the night (4 nights she slept 12 hrs straight).

At her 4 month doctor appointment she weighed 13 lbs 8 oz and was almost 25 inches long.  She is right in the 50 percentile in height and weight.  The doctor encouraged us to begin some solid foods when we felt ready so we gave sweet potatoes and squash a try.  She didn't love it, but didn't hate it either.

January 2013 - Avery is 3 Months Old!

January 4 2013...

Once again time has gotten away from me and I have failed to post about our little sweetheart.  Avery is now 14 weeks old (3 months and 1 week), weighs 12 lbs, 24 inches long and enjoying life.  She is a good sleeper, asleep by 7pm most nights, but still wakes up around 3am and 6am for feedings.  She now laughs, smiles all the time, grabs at her toys, coos, kicks her legs, and is mesmorized by the lights and sounds coming from the TV.

Around Thanksgiving Avery went through a rough patch and after a few terrible days we realized she has acid reflux and a milk protein allergy.  So the Doctor put her on Nutramigen, a hypoallergenic formula and prescribed Zantac.  After a few short days, a new baby appeared and what we thought was baby acne since she was a week old completley disappeared.  She still has a few episodes where her reflux really bothers her, but overall she feels so much better.  We are hoping the reflux and milk sensitivity go away by 6 months when her digestive system should be fully developed. At most the Doctor thought by 1 year she would have no symptoms.

We spent a good bit of November and Decemeber traveling to the panhandle to visit family for the holidays. Luckily Avery travels very well and slept about 6 of the 7 hour drive each trip; Bella on the otherhand felt a bit squeezed for room and was restless most of the way. Although Avery did not partake in Christmas activities, she defininetly brought a lot of joy to us and our families which made it a special 1st Christmas together.

I returned to work this past Wednesday and no I did not cry :)  It was pretty easy going to work, but I was sad when I got home to only find her already asleep.  Luckily this was a cat nap and she woke up 15 mins later and we were able to spend an hour together before she went down for the night.  It will be an adjustment from spending all day with Avery to only a few hours during the week, but I am excited for her to start at the Montessorri school and shortly begin interacting with other infants.

Below is a snapshot of how Avery has grown over the last 3 months.  I will also be adding more pictures to the following link http://alibenpictures.shutterfly.com/pictures;vidoes can be found on the right side of the screen.  Enjoy!
